Qualifications

Web Development

• Eight years developing CGI scripts and perl modules professionally

• Experience deploying perl and SQL database solutions across various hosting services and operating systems in both shared and dedicated server environments

• Practical experience integrating MySQL, Oracle and Sybase databases with perl, PHP and Cold Fusion-based web applications

• Six years developing mod_perl applications, mostly using the CGI::Application framework and HTML::Template exclusively

• Four years installing and maintaining Apache mod_perl web servers, MySQL database servers, CVS, SVN and SVK version control repositories, qmail, exim and postfix mail servers, using bind, but administering djbdns nameservers on FreeBSD and Linux (Debian and Red Hat) operating systems. Also proficient on Windows 3.1 through 9 point X through XP, a bit of Mac OS X and a smattering of KDE Linux desktop systems, with a short foray into GUI (wxPerl) desktop (and task-tray-top) application development for deployment in Windows, Linux and (in theory) OS X environments.

• Understanding of HTTP, SMTP, DNS, FTP, IMAP, and LDAP internet communication protocols and programming API's and many more three and four letter acronyms.

• Experience with internationalization/localization projects for the web including current character set and language-encoding issues, language fonts, Unicode compatibility and translation systems

• Knowledge of current markup standards including XML and XHTML conformance, considerable experience designing complex HTML and resolving cross-browser and cross-platform compatibility issues with HTML, CSS, Javascript and DHTML.

• Experience using the prototype and Scriptaculous object-oriented Javascript libraries.


Database Development

• MySQL design and development using perl DBI (7 years), Cold Fusion (2 years) and MySQL server installation/administration (5 years)

• PostgreSQL 7.x database design and development on FreeBSD (1 year)

• Oracle on Solaris - conversion to MySQL on Linux (1 year)

August 2003 - May 2005: Senior Developer

Senior web developer for ASP-model enterprise online advertising and ad trafficking support web application. Designed, developed, deployed and maintained PHP code, html templates and database structure for the high transaction volume ad-trafficking systems of clients such as FOX Sports, FOX News and The Wall Street Journal. Developed sales workflow solutions, custom reports, database import/export systems and automated testing systems for application's mission critical revenue systems and data streams.


March 2003 - August 2003: Web Developer

Developed perl/MySQL-based web applications for clients intranet sales support system, real-time payment processing systems, and an online training/testing system used for employees' ongoing certification and review. Provided web and database server hosting, including installation, maintenance, support, day-to-day administration, and troubleshooting duties.

Developed mod_perl Events Calendar application and fully automated weekly HTML-Email Events Digest for 7000 subscribers, with web-based subscription, unsubscription, personalized formatting and content filtering features.

Converted Asia Society's largest high-traffic legacy Cold Fusion sites: AsiaSource.org, AsiaBusinessToday.org and AsiaFood.org from Netscape and Oracle on Solaris, to Linux running Apache and MySQL, eliminating licensing costs, while improving performance and reliability.
 

Client: Page-A-Day.com - Workman Publishing

Developed user, session, access control and mailing list management features for the online version of the popular Page-A-Day® Calendars, converting over 150,000 retail customers into online users in the first five months after the launch in January, 2002.
 

Client: GNYHA.org - The Greater New York Hospital Association

Designed and developed a suite of survey applications and reporting tools to allow this association to automate their numerous financial and technical surveys, issued to all member hospitals periodically, and to gather, compile and publish the aggregate statistical information online, using email notifications to allow each participant to respond conveniently and securely using GNYHA's password-protected extranet.

Provided logistics services and assistance to staff, faculty and guests in planning meetings, presentations, events, performances and other campus activities.
